Description
So how much information do you need in the 'palm' of your hand? If space is not an issue and your local library and Internet are unavailable, then trying to fit something like the entire World Book Encyclopedia onto your PDA may be a worthwhile goal. So how does one go about doing this seemingly impossible task? To put this in perspective, the World Book Encyclopedia is daunting in terms of the amount of data (28,000 illustrations) and cost (~$1000), not to mention the sheer bulk of the entire 23 volume set. TownCompass has tackled this beast by limiting the amount of illustrations and including only the first paragraph of each World Book entry. The resulting database is then viewed using the TownCompass DataViewer, which can also view several other databases (ebooks, almanacs, etc.) offered for sale by TownCompass. Starting with installation, in this review I discuss how well the TownCompass approach works, as well as offer my opinions on the usefulness of such a product.
